How the Pomodoro technique works
The Pomodoro technique is a simple way to protect attention. Pick one task, set a timer for a short focused session, and work only on that task until the timer ends.
A common rhythm is 25 minutes of work followed by a 5 minute break. After four sessions, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The short cycles make it easier to begin and help reduce the feeling that study has to happen in one long stretch.
During each session, keep distractions out of reach and write down unrelated thoughts instead of acting on them. The break is for stepping away, stretching, drinking water, or resetting your eyes before the next focused block.
